Bee Removal in Taunton, Bridgwater & Somerset

Bees are one of the UK's most important pollinators, playing a vital role in supporting our countryside, gardens and food production. There are over 250 species of bees found throughout the UK, ranging from large social colonies of honey bees to small solitary bees that nest in the ground, walls and timber.

At KO Pest Control, we do not exterminate bees. Instead, we offer a professional bee removal and relocation service wherever possible, ensuring the bees can be safely rehomed by an experienced beekeeper or relocated to a more suitable location. This protects both the bees and the people living or working nearby.

Whether you've discovered a swarm in your garden, bees entering a cavity wall, or activity around your roof, our experienced technicians can identify the species, assess the situation and recommend the safest course of action.

Honey Bees

Honey bees are highly social insects that live in colonies which can contain anywhere from 10,000 to over 50,000 bees during the summer months. A healthy colony is made up of a single queen, thousands of worker bees and seasonal drones.

Honey bee swarms are most commonly seen during late spring and early summer when part of a colony leaves with the old queen in search of a new nesting location. Although a swarm may appear intimidating, swarming bees are generally far less aggressive than an established colony because they are focused on finding a new home rather than defending one.

If a swarm has settled in a tree, hedge, chimney or wall cavity, KO Pest Control can arrange for the colony to be safely removed and rehomed whenever practical.

Solitary Bees

Despite the name, solitary bees make up the majority of bee species found in the UK. Unlike honey bees, each female builds and provisions her own nest without the help of worker bees.

Many solitary bees nest in hollow plant stems, old masonry, timber, bee hotels and small holes around properties. They are extremely gentle insects and rarely sting unless directly handled or trapped.Solitary bees are valuable pollinators and should be left undisturbed whenever possible.

Mining (Digger) Bees

Mining bees, often referred to as digger bees, are commonly seen in lawns, flower beds, borders and dry areas of soil during spring. They excavate small burrows in the ground which can sometimes appear in large numbers, leading homeowners to believe they have an infestation. In reality, each small hole is normally occupied by a single female bee, and these bees are non-aggressive.Their activity usually lasts only a few weeks before naturally disappearing for the remainder of the year. In almost every case, no treatment is required.

Masonry Bees

Masonry bees frequently nest within mortar joints, brickwork, cavity walls and small cracks around buildings. They are excellent pollinators and are considered one of the most beneficial bee species found around homes and gardens.

Although homeowners sometimes become concerned when they notice bees repeatedly entering small holes in brickwork, these bees rarely cause structural damage and generally coexist with buildings without causing problems. Like other solitary bee species, masonry bees are not aggressive and are best left alone whenever possible.

Protecting Bees

Honey bees, solitary bees, mining bees and masonry bees all play an essential role in the environment by pollinating flowers, crops and wild plants.

Because of their ecological importance, bee populations are under increasing pressure from habitat loss, pesticides and disease. For this reason, KO Pest Control is committed to relocating bees wherever possible rather than destroying them.

Many solitary bee species, including mining bees and masonry bees, should not be intentionally killed simply because they are present on your property. They are beneficial insects that are typically active for only a short period each year and rarely present any danger.

If bees have established themselves in a location where they pose a genuine risk to people or are causing issues within a property, our technicians can assess the situation and advise on the safest and most appropriate solution.
